ClassDojo has managed to raise $21 million for an app to make parent-teacher meetings obsolete. Parents go to schools whenever there is a meeting. It is inconvenient to many parents who delay work and other activities to attend school meetings.
ClassDojo raised the money for an app that connects teachers to student’s parents. The app help educators communicate regularly about students’ progress, activities, and behavioral development. Frequent communication allows parents to know how their children are doing in school. School meetings are held once a semester which does not have enough time to discuss important things.
Co-founders Liam Don and Sam Chaudhary said the money will be used to grow their teams, and identify features and content that can be added to the app. They want to make the app useful not only for school days but at home. They want to help parents build conversation networks at home and improve learning. The co-founders realized that communication between parents and teachers was dwindling due to lack of time to meet and interact with every parent. Through the app, teachers can interact easily with parents anywhere and pass vital information. It is a communication platform where educators and parents can come together and discuss how to improve learning.
Educators use ClassDojo to prepare a schedule of activities after consulting parents. They also use the app to snap videos or photos of student’s work and send to parents. ClassDojo was founded in 2011 to ease communication between teachers and parents. Liam Dom states that the idea to start the app came after seeing education tech businesses create digital books and curriculum to improve learning. It is then that he realized the communication in the sector and thought of ways to improve it.
When they started, they did not intend to create an app that creates a community between students, parents, and teachers. The app is used by more than 850,00 schools in the US. It is used by public schools, private, and charter schools. Founders of the education tool want to add more features to make it better than competitors. ClassDojo is distributed to parents and teachers across the United States.
