Dissecting Eric Holder’s Tweet

In December of 2017, Eric Holder, a former cabinet member of Barrack Obama, said that if Donald Trump fired Robert Mueller it would be crossing the line. “If removed or meaningfully tampered with, there must be mass, popular peaceful support of both. The American people must be seen and heard – they will ultimately be determinative,” said Eric Hold on Twitter.

Sujit Choudhry is featured in the upcoming book “Constitutional Democracies in Crisis?” Choudhry, in his chapter, completely dissects the Holder tweet. In the writing, he explains various things that Eric Holder may have meant with his statement.

One of the possible meaning behind the Holder Tweet was a figurative red line. If President Donald Trump decides to fire the special investigation, it would be crossing a line that should never be crossed in politics. Should Trump successfully fire Robert Mueller and his team, it would be a dramatic loss of a nation’s democracy.

Eric Holder could have also been talking about a red line that the American citizens wouldn’t tolerate. Choudhry explains that Holder’s tweet may have been suggesting that public outrage will rise to unimaginable levels if Trump were to fire Mueller and the rest of the special counsel.
